Why this format

Every part of the ID has a reason.

Why a prefix?

Assets often carry several QR codes: from the manufacturer, the maintenance company, the last CAFM project. The prefix shows at a glance which code belongs to your inventory, for people and for import filters. Pick a code for the owner or portfolio, never for a room or floor. Assets move, the ID stays.

Why not a running number?

Running numbers like 0001, 0002 need someone who knows which number comes next. When two teams or contractors print in parallel, you get duplicates. The random part can be created anywhere without coordination, and it says nothing about the asset, so it never has to change. Manufacturer serial numbers don't help either: they're often missing, formatted differently by every manufacturer and not unique across manufacturers.

1,15 × 10¹⁸possible IDs at 12 characters. Duplicates are practically ruled out. No 0, O, 1 or I, so nothing gets mixed up.

Why a check character?

Labels get dirty, scratched, painted over. Then someone types the ID by hand. With running numbers a typo usually lands on another real asset, 0021 instead of 0012, and nobody notices. The check character turns a typo into an invalid ID instead of the wrong asset.

The QR code holds only the ID. No link to flint, no account, no lock-in. Any software can recompute the check character, Excel included.

Alphabet	`23456789ABCDEFGHJKLMNPQRSTUVWXYZ` 32 characters. No 0, O, 1 or I.
Random part	4 to 16 characters (default 12), cryptographic randomness from the browser. No duplicates within one run.
Check character	Luhn mod 32 over the random part. Prefix and hyphens don't count.
QR code	Content: the ID only. Alphanumeric mode, error correction Q (25 %).
CSV	UTF-8, one column "id", one ID per row.
